964 Turbo, 3.3 ltr

I just sold my 1990 C2, cheap, very cheap. I loved the power, looks etc, but got tired of the oil leaks. My question is re the early 964 Turbos. Since the enigne was not the 3.6 liter, but the 3.3 liter of the 87-89 911, then would they be more reliable than the later 964 3.6 turbos? Or would I still have the same leakage problem. I love the looks of the 964 over the old 911 and really like the turbo look, but don't want the oil mess and expense that comes with it. thoughts?? thanks

IMO you'll get these too...just how much oil was leaking?

I was told the entire 964 model range suffered from bad seals. The NA cars had a bigger problem then the turbos. My 94 3.6 turbo had every seal replaced under warrantee by the PO. I fortunatly have no problems with leaks what so ever.

Mine was a constant drip. I replace all the hoses on the side and then the rear leaked even more. The more leaks I sealed the more it started leaking from other arreas. I didn't want to spend anymore money. I would assume the 94 turbos would leak with the 3.6. But my question is what about the 3.3. Weren;t these a carry over from the 84-89 Carrera Turbos. If so I have heard that those engines leaked far less than the 3.6s Does any;one have any experience here? thanks Bob

yes, the 3.3 turbo engine is basically from 1978. pretty different architecture. all of the pre-90 (except '89 C4) engines CAN certainly have oil leaks, but will not have anything major when properly sorted (just a few drips or maybe even totally dry). unfortunately it sometimes requires major work to get to this point. I would think if you had the car inspected ahead of time, you would not have unexpected problems. Or you could buy my 968, change your username, and forget about it

Thanks! Anthony (Cobalt) who also posted in this thread has a beautiful turbo 3.6 in this color as well.

Here's my new Blau (not my minivan! PO's house):
