993 Cab - 3rd brake light repair or?

The third brake light on my 95 Cabriolet has about 8 burn out bulbs. Any suggestions on possible solutions.

It's the light bar available? Or are we to replace each light bulb with a soldering gun? With my luck, once I replace all burn out light bulbs and bolt it all back up, some more will go out

I'm guessing you have the basket handle and not a brake light bar at the top of the window? There is some pics and word at p-car.com in the DIY section but they don't show the basket handle procedures. Near as I can figure...and I'll be doing this myself pretty soon, there are two pins from the bar that have nuts that hold the bar on...you can see them with the engine cover fully raised. Once in your hand, the bar has two phillips heads screws in the bottom...my personal knowledge ends here... but I'd guess they unscrew and some combination of the bar and lights then separate into your other hand from the bar. The lights are soldered in I guess so it's probably wise to separate the power cord somehow and take the bar to a workbench for the latter steps.

As I said, I'll be doing mine soon too and hope someone else chimes in here who has actually done this on a basket handle brake light setup.

The p-car article is good. Unbolt the two 10mm nuts in the engine bay, lift up the basket handle. Undo the two phillips screws and gently pull out the lens/light assembly. Separate the lens and PCB. Desolder burnt out bulbs and solder in new ones.

The burnt out ones are obvious - they're black.

I'm working on a new PCB with ultrabright LEDs to replace this bulb PCB this holiday. I hope it's worth it.

It looks like we all have the same task ahead of us...

Does anyone know if the light bar itself is available for sale as a stand alone item?
