Oil leak problem - again....
Hi, I know this has been touched on before but after 2 hours reading previous posts I am still a bit lost.
I am still confused about what oil seals the 964 engine has or has not got. I have a 1989 very early 964 and from what I can gather my engine does not have piston liner seals or head gaskets? Can that be correct? The later cars from 1991 onwards had these installed? I am thinking of taking it out and putting a new gasket set as I have oil dripping everywhere including onto the exhaust somewhere that makes it smoke a lot. Also the bottom of the crankcase is also very wet and drips there too. If I leave the car standing overnight it will leave at least 8 different drip areas on the floor... (I have had mechanical training) but I do not know about these 964's. Is there a rebuild book on 964's? What is the machining process to fit these later gaskets to an early car? Is there any point in taking an engine apart to change seals if the engine does not have these seals? Any help would be great, its just I dont want to start something that I dont know anything about. Many Thanks Last edited by Manipou; 06-07-2005 at 02:03 AM.. |

Our 89 964 C4 do not have the head gasket fit. You will need it to be machined to fit the gasket.
Check out the 964 guys on rennlist. great group of guys who will answer your questions in detail. It has also been covered 100 times over there. Ps. Gunter, I have his book and everyone raves about it. As far as any problem I have dealt with for my car. It has not helped me one bit. The guys over on rennlist gave me tutorials on fixing my tidbits. Jeff |

Thanks Jeff, a few people mentioned it but I will most likely not buy the 964 book. I was hoping that Bentley would publish something for 964's. I find the Bentley for SC's a great help. Cheers.
