Arrow Anyone replaced Oil Pressure Sendier (Guage) on 993?

My 98 Cab's oil pressure guage just pegged to 5 and stayed the other night. It occasionally jumps back to a reading and then pegs to 5 again. I assumed the sending unit is going out and ordered new.

I have a manual and parts breakdown and know where it is. Removed the airbox and can see it behind and just under the intake.

However, just how do I get to it to remove it?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers!

If you can get your hands on the sender, you are in luck

Go to sears, and buy a stubby 15/16ths (a.k.a. 24mm) wrench

That is what will break it loose. They aren't torqued on all that tight - 25 - 30 ftlbs.

Removed the airbox A tech friend (local Porsche NA) came over and suggested that it may be that the connection was grounding. we moved the wires a bit and checked that the connections were tight and when fired her up it was still reading a bit high 4+. He said the pressure should drop when it gets warm but I dont remeber it ever sitting that high at idle. However, once she warmed up I went back to the guage and it was pegged at 5 again.

I guess the sender is shot? Odd, have these cars over 30 years old and no such issue before.

I did see the nut portion of the sender with a mirror from the back but the secondary air pump motor seems to be in the way of really getting a hand on it.

Porsche suggests that the right side intake manifold will have to come out. I really dont want to crack into a perfect engine!

From what area should I try a stubby? The rear?

Should I or can I try to remove the air pump(under the intake)?

Thank you for the reply!

You can usually find one or two angles where you can get a wrench on it.

Another option is a 3/8th inch drive, 15/16ths crowfoot on an extension.

Yes, I had thought about that actually - lying in bed (sleepless cab owner LOL) Going to try just that. Thing is, if I get it out can I get the other back in?
