993 ride height and rake?

My old 1986 911 had a pretty aggressive ride height and rake to it. The new 1996 993 I picked up seems to have a pretty high ride height and almost no rake to it.

Old 911:

New 911:

So my question is, what is the proper ride height for a 993, and do people setup 993s with a rake to them (if so, what degree/angle)?

There is a nice DIY on suspension over on Rennlist here

mine is 25 1/4 at the front 25 3/4 at the rear at the fender lips.

Bill, does the front of your car scrape when getting in/out of parking lots?

Typical rake, regardless of ride height should be set to 1 degree nose down.

And as Chris knows, this usually equates to the front fender height being ~about~ 1/4" HIGHER than the rears.

When in doubt, set the rake by the Porsche reference bolts under the car. See the thread that Bill linked to above for a description of the reference points and the corresponding "official" ride height settings.

For reference, mine is set to the RS ride height + 5mm and I have fender heights about 25 3/8" in the front and 25 1/8" in the rear.

Here is a before/after ANIMATION (let it load for a second):

FWIW my car is at 24.75/24.25 also. In general I use a 1/2" lower on the rear of 911/964/993 when I set them up. Seems to get a consistant hight FR where the rocker line is parallel to the ground. This gives approximately 4" clearance, unfortunately just not-enough to put the car on the lift easily.

The progression of wheels and heights and wings can be seen at http://instant-g.com/Cars/Midnight993/index.html

The car has PSS9s, Getty Design wing and splitter and a solid-lifter 3.8 RS with the big RS varioram. It is street driven only

My '96 looked like it was ready for the Paris-Dakar Rally when I got it. I just installed some H&R sport springs. Here is a before and after shot. Not great photo quality(too much sun), but you can see what a difference lowering makes, and it is a LOT more fun to drive now.

I was going to post the Shakespearian riddle: "Too bling, or not too Bling, that is the question" but never got aroud to it.

Happy to gather votes! Please chime in. I was derrated for putting chromies on the car but they are very fat, (8.5 and 10.5 vs those skinny 8+10)

Opinions welcome!

At least I finally got around to cutting the ends off the crab muffler last week and adding that to our repertior. Must save about 30 lbs! I might even work on my own car for a change and install tips....naah I'm dreamin.

My streets are Speedlines 9 & 10 but not chrome(thank God)

Just picked up some JIC comps, but don't think I want to go much lower, If I do lawnshots are out and another layer will be needed to get it on the lift.
