911 or BoxsterS

Which one is better (mechanically/value/other) assuming everything checks out in the PPI.

In looking through the used car prices and it looks like a 2002 BoxterS with 25,000 miles is going for about the same price as a 1999 911 coupe with 45,000 miles or about $33,000 in my area. Which one would you buy and why. I have never owned a Porsche and this would be a Sunday driver resulting in about 5000 miles a year. I tested the BoaxterS last weekend and was pretty impressed running though the gears but I don't want this one time experience to let me make the wrong decision.

The 99 is the first year of the water cooled 911. It had some teething problems (leaking RMS) and other issues which has depressed its value slightly. $33K seems a little high for a 99 AFIK. For a Sunday driver, the BoxterS is probably a much better choice - strong engine, good brakes and open top.

The Boxter will hold value a little better than the 996. However, the Cayman is depressing BoxterS values, so bargains will be available there too.

Also suggest you look at the Rennlist boards for more 996 info.

It's really more of a personal choice than anything else. The decision I would make for myself isn't necessarily the right one for you. Do your homework, browse these boards, and test drive them both. Buy the one that makes you the happiest.
