Oil temp gauge
I have an oil temp gauge that wants to bounce up to the peg (high temp) especially when cold. If I tap the gauge sharply it usually drops back to normal range. Does this sound like a wiring short or a bad sending unit? I know the temp is OK, but it's an agravation to see that gauge on the red.

Tapping the gauge would not fix a sending unit problem ... sounds like the gauge to me.
Mine was a problem last year and I had it sent to Palo Alto Sppedometer to fix, calibrate and add numbers for the temps. I think it cost $150.

Maybe I can send the gauge out for bench testing, but I'm leaning more toward a faulty connection or intermittent short by the way the needle jumps when it happens. Your right about the sending unit not likely the source, it's just a thermometer isn't it.
