Help identify sender probe
I bought a 77 911 powered with a 1993 964 3.6 engine. This pictured air duct came with the car. It's about 4 inches in diameter and has what looks like a temp probe on the right side. Can someone tell me what the temp probe is for? I thought it may be an air temp probe which is supposed to be on the injection harness but I'm unable to locate a related plug.

Jim, that plastic air duct connects the heat exchangers from the engine exhaust to the engine compartment electric motor driven blower fan located on the left bank (cylinders 1-3) of the engine. You probably don't have this electric fan on your 77, thus the air duct was removed from the 3.6 power plant. The fan is used for cabin heating as well as additional engine cooling which explains the NTC temp sensor in the air duct. The CCU controls the fan operation on a 964.
A 77 with a 3.6 must be nice to have. If you need more info, just search "rear engine blower or fan" here.

Thanks for the info Bazar, I'll toss this thing in the garbage.
I have yet to drive this car. Needed to detune the suspension and refine a number of things. Working like a snail here. |
