993 Turbo Brake Failure
I own a 993 Turbo and am having problems with the hydraulic brake booster pressure. It began with the lighting up of the pressure warning light and the pedal became very very hard to depress. I have replaced what we thought was a defective hydraulic brake booster and pressure accumulator. So far the failed pressure warning light is still lit and the pedal is just as stiff. The hydraulic pressure pump works though it runs hot and is running all the time. Should this pump also be running all the time? What else should I check for? Thanks.

The classic cause of the pump running permanently (which it shouldn't) is the failure of the pressure switch on the output of the pump. Once the required pressure is reached the switch should cause the pump to be stopped.
The pump is not designed to run permanently and will overheat quite quickly - and, in doing so is likely to melt the plastic hydraulic pipe and cause brake fluid to leak into the luggage compartment. AFAIK the pressure switch (and necessary 'O'-ring) is available seperately. Regards Dave |

993 Turbo Brake Failure
Thank you for your reply Dave. Yes the pump got a bit hot but we only had the car running from inside the shop and we shut the engine down when the hydraulic brake booster pump got hot. Is it possible that the failure is a result of the pump not shutting down and putting too much pressure? I will order the pressure switch ASAP and will let you know what happens. Let me know if there is anything else I should do. Thank you again.
