I am replacing four original (20-years old!) rubber oil hoses that originate from the bottom end of the oil tank in my 1990 Carrera 2. Two of the hoses felt as hard as a rock when I pushed on them with my finger.
Should you put a sealer on the inside of the hoses prior to installing them onto the oil tank connections and tightening the hose clamps? I'm trying to eliminate an oil leak flowing down the side of a hose located beneath the oil tank onto the top of the oil thermostat. Your comments are requested.

No, but the surface where the hose will be installed should be clean and free of rust, etc.

No sealer. Just a clean connection and correct torque for the hose clamps. The hose leaks because it is old and probably bridle - very common problem, very easy to fix.
