Freak 964/965 Accident

I was driving along (minding my own business) when I heard a "pop" and saw that my alternator, fan belt sensor, anti-lock brake, and battery warning lights had come on.
I slowed down and pulled to a stop and heard a clang, clang, clang sound. This is what I found:

The fan belt sensor wheel had broken off, bounced around on the sheet metal and landed on the ribbed belt where it rolled under the tensioning roller and caused the belt to snap and the casting for the tensioning roller bracket to break off.
The tensioning roller and broken bracket casting were laying against the fan blades and making the "clang" sound.

So if any of you have a used AC mounting bracket from an AC delete, I need it because this is my daily driver and with no tensioning roller the belt will not fit. My car needs this belt to turn the alternator!

I am thinking about a short ribbed belt that would go from the crank pulley straight up to the small alternator pulley, but I think that is a longshot for a temporary fix.

I need P/N 930-126-015-04 ASAP! I might also need the tensioning roller P/N 930-126-216-01. PM me at mlucitt@verizon.net

Thanks,
Mark

Seen that before. The last one ended up with the crank pulley broken off because the tensioner pulley jammed it.

There are updated parts for this.

Nice to hear from you again! Still looking for the part and I may try to have my bracket welded in town. The fan was fine so I guess I'm lucky considering everything.

Thanks,
Mark

Which part do you need exactly? I just pulled my A/C and have the compressor and all the mounting bits here.

James,
I need the long-ish bracket that bolts onto the back of the engine with 2 17mm bolts and holds the A/C compressor up on the right hand side. The P/N on the back of the bracket is 930-126-015-5R. It would be great if I could get that part from you. Here is a picture:

Thanks,
Mark

Mark, That part is still on my car but I'd be happy to take it off. Can I remove it without taking the engine out? I didn't look carefully. Let me know.

Cheers, James

James,
You can remove the part without dropping the engine but is a pain because of the 6mm Allen head bolt that joins the aluminum bracket to the pair of steel brackets that support the power steering pump. The way the two halves of the steel bracket joint together make it hard to remove the whole assembly. Then to make matters worse, you can only get a half turn on the Allen bolt because the engine mount is right in the way.

Other than that and a stud next to the fan shroud, the two 17mm (head) size bolts on the bottom of the engine casing come out easily. At least for me they did because I have a test pipe instead of the catalytic converter.

There is no hurry now because I have my part welded up, see below. I think it will be strong enough to make a permanent fix but if you get your bracket out let me know, I may need a spare.

Thanks for the response, you Pelicanites are amazing.

Mark

A big thank you to Ivan and Aaron and the folks at IMA Motorsports for repairing my AC bracket while I waited. They even had the correct belt for my application, 6PK-1555. Here is a picture of Aaron's handiwork:

Thanks,
Mark

Mark, did you look at converting to a Clewett serpentine belt set-up, for fun (going back with stock is more affordable, of course)?

Paul,
Good comment. I was in a hurry because this car is my daily driver, and I am back on the road. But the Clewett electronic ignition is always an option. I looked at their website and I don't see a 965 application, just 964.

For the serpentine belt, same thing, they show 964 but not 965. Also that belt looks very short, I wonder what the lifespan would be.

Do you have their systems on your car?

Mark

I don't have the serpentine belt set-up. It looks intriguing, however, as does all the Clewett stuff.
