964 value
I'm considering a 1993 964 with over 90,000 miles. The motor was rebuilt at 84,000 and the clutch and flywheel were also replaced. New rotors and pads at the same time.
The car seems to be tight and run well (up to 100mph anyway). The noticed faults were an occasional "clunk" from the left rear and a wet motor. There is too much (1.5 quarts) oil in the crankcase which may account for the oil on the motor. Your comments about value would be appreciated...a cab, by the way. |

Are receipts available for the motor work? How long ago? Top end only or whole motor? Would there be any warranty on oil leaks?. Probably a good deal in high teens if the rest of the car has been maintained . Cabs and tiptronic are not selling as well as coupes. I am also unsure of high mileage 4 wd cars.

Thanks for the opinion. The rebuild appears to be only to end (valves, timing chains valve guides, oil return tubes and engine gaskets)...no bottom end other than to replace cylinder base O rings and assorted seals and gaskets.
As to leak warranty...the work was done over four years and 11,000 miles ago so I assume not. I've forwarded what records I have to my preferred (and well regarded) independent shop and will certainly have a PPI if I decide to move forward. I think that you're pretty much on target in the upper teens... Thanks. further thoughts welcome (C2 by the way). |

There were only ~350 coupes brought in during 1993 so they are pretty rare. They are great cars and as long as the engine work checks out and the body is in good shape, I would go for it. I've had mine for a year now and it's wonderful.
Good luck, James

james...thanks for responding. This one happens to be a cab. I might prefer a coupe but coming off a great New England Summer and driving an M Roadster, it's hard to get closed in again.
What is your mileage and what would your guestimate of value be? |

That said; while an overfill may account for the wet motor, I'd be far more interested in determining whether a simple overfill is actually to blame or a problem with the oil circulation system is resulting in the same effect (dipstick reading 1.5Q high). If the car is clean and you want it; get a PPI and pay for an oil change. For the extra couple hundred bucks, you can be sure that the car was, in fact, overfilled and you can examine the oil for traces of bigger problems.

My mileage on my car is 73K. I know nothing about values on Cab's so I can't help there.
Cheers, James

I have owned my 1993 coupe LSD for 3 years now and it is currently 104k miles, and bought it at 74k miles. No rebuild, just fixed the common oil leaks at 75k miles and still dry. It consumes 1qt of oil every 2k miles and still pulls strong.
I got it for $19k. A top end rebuild and new clutch is a plus, though not a fan of cabs. This repair alone will cost you at least $3k in parts alone plus shop labor. Good luck
