bar setting
I was bringing my 91 turbo home from the dealer after the 45 k
service and the car was cutting out in 4th and 5th around 4500 rpm, when the turbo was engaged.I assume the boost protection was kicking in.I noticed the next day that the turbo guage was reading .7 bar at idle. When I called the dealer they informed me the problem was in the chip, which I have no record of one being installed. One of the previous owners could have put one in and I dont have the paper on it. Now the question, since the dealer will not work on it,what should my course of action be.Thanks for any help |

Certianly sounds like your overboosting.
Did they drop the motor for the service? Sounds like something might be disconected. There's no such thing as a "chip" for our cars since we still have a mechanical fuel injection system. If the dealer is implying your boost is too high because of a chip, then it wouldn't surprise me something was left disconnected (ie...they aren't familiar with the car). The quickest way to check the boost is to get a gauge at a parts store. Tap into one of the lines from the throttle body or the one from the wastegate to the intercooler and get a boost reading. You can run the hose through the sunroof or window to do this quickly. Overboosting can be bad. A friend broke "all" his piston rings with one overboost. Be glad your protection kicked in! |
