H4 headlight trim rings

I'm finding all sorts of conflicting information, especially on the 911 forum. What I'm trying to figure out is whether my H4 replacement lights for my 964 require trim rings or not. I have the trim rings that went over the H5 factory lights. The Pelican catalog indicates that trim rings aren't necessary but can be purchased and installed using an inner and outer bolt. However, the Pelican catalog also says that the H4 lights do not come with bulbs and mine did. So I'm looking for firsthand experience. I got the H4's with black trim. Should I paint the black trim rings (my car is white), leave them black, try to retrofit my factory H5 trim rings, or buy a pair of primered trim rings and paint those? Any recommendations on painting technique or is a guy best to just take the rings to a body shop?

I also want to install relays and since the left and right side have separate fuses I'm not sure if I should install one pair of relays or two. Also, I bought the JWest Engineering relay kit and want to install it as you would in a 911, using the wiring at the fuse box. The downside is that it is a lot harder to figure out the wiring for the 964 fuse box than it would be to install the relay kit on a 911. Does anyone have some guidance on the relay situation before I start cutting wires?

Thanks in advance.

I used the primed trim rings, had them painted. This is the best way to do it.
If you run from the fuse box, would you not lose the advantage of (using) larger wire, closer to the headlight?
The advantage of using 4 relays, is the safety of only having one light go out, in event of a relay failure.
Show us your relay install, when completed, please.

Where did you put your relays? Did you add fuses? I will definitely post pictures when I get it figured out, but I am the kind of person who measures 3,000 times and cuts once.

Buy the primed rings and have them professionally painted. Cost me about $100 to have them painted. Seems high, but worth it if you want your paint to match. May not be as big of a deal on a white car, but with my skills I couldn't come close to matching a 27 year old red car tint.
Worst case - I think a white car is the only color where you could leave the black trim rings and have it look good.
