Tire recommendations for 993 with 18" wheels
I'm an owner of a 97 car with 18" Porsche technology wheels, currently with continental conti sport contact 2 wheels that are reaching the end of the road. I'm considering options for replacement and have read a few reviews. The newer contact 3s are an obvious choice given I've had good luck with Continentals but do members have any insights or good recommendations?

I have been very happy with Hankook V12's. I'm on my second set. Very inexpensive and very quite. I do not track my car and am not an aggressive driver. Some have stated they are too soft.

PS2's are awesome but very expensive. A lot of people seem to like the Sumitomo's and they are by far the cheapest. I just switched from PS2's to the Sumi's and they are definitely not as good but for less than half the price they are good enough.

Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec or Hankook Ventus V12 Evo or Kumho Ecsta XS or Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sport.

Thanks great feedback
appreciate the suggestions and experience - anyone tried the Falken 452s or the Bridgestone pole position SO 4s? Both local recommendations from one of the garages I've used

I haven't tried the SO4's but am currently running SO2's on my 17" 993. It is a GREAT tire! I would not put anything else other than Bridgestone's going forward.

I purchased Michelin Pilot sport Super Cup tires got a great deal $1048 fitted for 225/40/18 and 265/35/18 set. Will report on how these run but short 20 mile run at hwy speed noted how nicely they track and low road noise for a hi performance tire. Thanks to everyone for the great advice

+1 An excellent choice summer performance tire for not a lot of $$$. The operative words being, "summer performance tire" If money is no object, you can easily spend 2.5 X as much for PS2's, but why would you?

The Hankkok Ventus V12 is a great tire, way, way better than anything from Sumitomo! I have had several sets on several Porsches, I have even tracked them with good results.
For my 993 (narrow) I used 235/40-18 and 295/30-18 on 8"x18"ET48 and 10"x18"ET60, no fender rubbing issues. |

Wow, can't believe two above like the Hankook V12's. I put them on last summer, worst tires I ever had, lot of tire noise, no traction in wet, side walls to soft (poor turn in) then back comes around, not a track tire, not even a good street. Will go back to Pilots or Conti's soon. This is on a 98S with sport suspension. Thanks, mark

I installed Michelin PS2s last year upon the recommendation of a DE instructor..."they are expensive, but you can't go wrong".
Tires are not an item that I would cheap out on. Its not worth it. |
