Steering rack brace with 18" wheels

I see this mentioned from time to time that 95 model 993s need this brace when running 18" wheels.
What is the purpose of the brace?
Anybody got experience on this?
Is factory part the only source?

Here is the TSB http://www.pcarworkshop.com/images/5/54/Installing_18_iNCH_wheels_1996_640496.pdf

There is a rennlist member that was making a billet copy, I don't know if he still has them anymore.

Plenty of folks dont do it but I would say if Porsche issued a TSB I would tend to follow their rec's

Chaoscreature on rennlist makes a pretty nice piece if you cant source the Porsche part (which runs out of stock from time to time)

Is your 95 after VIN 99 7 SS 323614; then NO, it already has the bracket installed. If your VIN is before the number stated, then yes.
No guess work in that, right? Just because your car came with the 18's; means little to nothing. Check your VIN; if earlier, then check your car to see if the support bracket was added at some point. If not, I would recommend gettng one and installing it per the TSB, so graciously provided by pirahna

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I have one of these I just found from when I had my 993. Porsche Original Equipment Part #99334713102, NEW and Unused. Just the bar without the bolts.

$50 + shipping to anyone who wants it.

Just the bar without the bolts.

Just for informational purposes, the 4 bolts you need are 2 M8, 1.25 thread, 60mm length and 2 M8, 1.25 thread, 80mm length.

The OEM bolts are grade 10.9 so don't go any lower. The ones Fastenal sells are 12.9.

Another +1 for Carnewal....it's Gert, btw, not Garth Him and his good wife were very nice people when my Father and I drove over to his (superb) setup a year or so ago. Super responsive and competitive pricing

And +1 for chaoscreature (Peter) on RL. He makes his braces in the US, and is also super responsive with competitive pricing.
