Bilstein HD shocks, Threaded collars

Merry Christmas to me. I hope to get these mounted soon.

Does anyone know why there is one collar on the rear shocks but two on the fronts?

Probably because the rear assemblies don't turn, only move up and down.

The front assemblies turn w/ the steering, so there's the possibility of the collars turning and losing adjustment. The two collars basically work like a jam nut, tighten them against each other to lock in the setting.

The TEIN coilovers on my Toyota daily driver have double collars on all 4 corners. It just depends.

I'd want 2 locking the spring perch and 2 for the sway bar mount, 1 above and 1 below

like this

Your sway would probably be above the toe link

Remember he has a 964, not a 993.

I just looked at the Bilstein HD/H&R red combo I have chilling in a box waiting to go on the car and they also have the single perch on the rear assemblies.

Good Choice

I like your tastes, I just picked up the same Bilstein dampers with a set of Eibach springs for my 964.

Looks like it's in the air.

I also got week ago new set of Bilstein B6/HD + H&R springs, but have green/blue springs instead. In addition, will install 21mm rear ARB.
Car is 964 C4

These are spring rates I got:

H&R 964 springs (blue/green)
Front 190-255 lbs/inch
Rear 220-265 lbs/inch

H&R 965 (Turbo) springs (red)
Front 250-270 lbs/inch
Rear 265-285 lbs/inch

Well done Gents.

It makes sense that the fronts would turn and therefore benefit from a locking mount. Good point.

How many of you folks are going to install your shocks yourselves? I would like to bench build mine before I take the old ones off. Does anyone have a link showing the correct installation of the washers/spacers, etc?

Hey I just got a set of Bilstein shocks too, waiting to get some free time

can you tell me why you are choosing the springs you did?

I haven't bought springs yet and am deciding what brand to get

also wanting to see a thread that would help me with installing these shocks

thanks in advance
Glenn

I think that link is for a 993. A 964 is very similar though.

For the HDs , how much adjustment do you get out of turning the collars? If you turn the collar one 360* rotation, typically, how much height adjustment will that get you? A few millimeters..?
