964 lost of response

I have been having the same problems over and over almost every time I drive the car, it starts to "cough" and I need to rev the engine to get rid off it, then it's fine. It also sometimes get no response once I step on the gas, just flat!! One more thing, just recently it seems to want to die just idling, I can drive the car but it does not run properly.
I changed spark plugs, fuel pump, did valve adjustment, tune up and replaced distributor caps.
Thanks.

I'd hook up an OBD scanner and see if it's throwing any fault codes first, assuming its a 96 or later 993

If you haven't already done so, check/replace the DME relay (You should always carry a spare).

There has been a lot of talk over on Rennlist about no response when getting back on the throttle after coasting. I changed out the idle/wot micro switches and now the problem is gone.

You may want to check for a vacuum leak as well.
