Buying Advice Needed
Hi All,
Long time follower, new member, and hope to be first time porsche owner. I'm looking at a 1990 964 Targa in Phoenix, listed here: 1990 Porsche 964 Targa new eng I spoke to DJ Don Jackson Enterprises who sounded great and are going to do a PPI on the car if I want to move forward. Car seems to be well sorted, just need to maybe work on the price a little. Being that I'm not in the Phoenix area, would you recommend trying to negotiate before the PPI and then negotiating after that for any issues that may arise? If the PPI goes well, i'm planning on flying down and driving it back to San Francisco. Anyway, just wanted to see if this particular car threw up any red flags with the group. Or if anyone had any experience buying from this seller. This is going to be my first Porsche, so I've been a bit obsessive and have looked at a ton of different cars at this point, everything from Caymans, SC's, old 911's and 993's. Thanks for any info, looking forward to being a member of the group (hopefully)! |

Thanks for the info on that! I wouldn't have even known about the antenna in the cowl. Where's the correct placement for that?
I noticed what I thought was a crack in the reflector, but I think it might be a reflection. It's on my list of questions though. |

Don't use the seller/dealers choice for your PPI.
Find someone not associated with them. Bunch of knowledgeable people on this board from Phoenix that can direct you to the right person to perform the PPI. Matt

matt f is correct
Antenna is in windshield and is amplified...requires correct hook up to function...either someone didnt hook it up right or wanted better reception out in the desert

Someone might have cheaped out by using an earlier windshield without the built in antenna. Also the wheels look like wrong year too.
Look the engine rebuild receipt over well. The 90s had the missing cyl head gasket leak issues. Replacment pistons and cylinders (or modified cylinders at least) were required to properly fix them. 14k would probably rebuild the engine alone but look at the bill to be sure they aren,t adding up a load of bills with only a reseal or topend only. New clutch on one that old should also probably replace the dual mass flywheel .(single mass was in 89 so I think a 90 had the early problematic dual mass.)
