964 OBC - turbo vs standard
Hi,
I have a 1990 C4 (not turbo). I just bought a tach with the OBC from a guy on ebay who claims it works just fine (in his turbo). It is a 965 641 322 00, which means it is for the turbo. Indeed, when I plug it in to the conector in the car, I do see a "bar" indication. However, it is different in another way too. In my manual, it shows two additional functions that I don't see on this unit: the distance to empty and miles per gallon. I don't know if this is normal for a turbo tach. I have not been able to find any info on this. If I had a turbo owners manual I would be able to tell. Thanks for your help!! Victor |
Read your normal owners manual! It mentions an onboard computer (the control stalk for which would be on the left, if fitted) - an option, I guess, because my '90 C2 doesn't have one. Anyway, the computer can display a number of things - average miles/gallon, time needed to refuel, outside temperature, etc. - these things are displayed in the tach. My tach doesn't show these things, so I can only assume there are two different types of tach depending on the computer option.
Hope this helps. |
Hi,
Your answer doesn't help, because, as I said in my original mail, I DID read the manual and it refers to functions that I don't see working on my OBC. I did get the answer from someone else, Adrian Streather, on the Rennlist BBS. Here is what he said: " Dear Victor, There are quite a few different Tachometer OBC part numbers. Now I just happen to have the Turbo 3.6 owners manual in front of me. You have a Turbo version. Unfortunately some of the functions have been removed from the Turbo and others added. Firstly "bar" means boost pressure. This will not work because you have no boost pressure input. Other functions not installed in the Turbo version are, Average fuel comsumption [and] Distance to next fill up. The person who sold you this tacho is correct when they say it will work sadly it will not work as a Carrera 2 one should work though. Hope this helps, Ciao, Adrian." Adrian describes the Turbo as having exactly what I see, and since the tach I have IS a Turbo tach, this confirms that what I see is correct and that the tach is not broken. Victor |
