'92 911/964 wheels/tires

gents,

just purchased the 92 C4.

she's fitted w/ALtera (Italian) wheels and Continental Extreme DWS tires.

225-40 - 18 on the front, 265-35 on the rear

I don't like the wheels and want to replace them with something more trad; maybe Fuchs.

BUt the real question is what size tires are best for this 911; it's a totally different ride than my 84, or any of the six i've owned.

so your input will be greatly appreciated.

tx.

Fuchs from an old 911 won't fit. The suspension is completely different fro an old 911 so that along with the 18" wheels are probably why the ride seems different. Many people like the Cup 1 and 2 wheels. I'm sure someone would trade you. Have any pictures?

A common 964 wheel fitment is Cup 1, they came in 7, 7.5, 8, 9 and 9.5 widths all 17, usually w/ 225/45 and 255/40 tires, 7 thru 8 can be used in front and 8 thru 9.5 in back

The original Porsche wheels will have the width and offset (ET) cast on either side of the valve stem. They will also have a Porsche part # on the back side.

and maybe not I have recently seen some people asking rediculious money for the Cup 1's but then again those FS ads have quite a few bumps. I had a set of them on my DE car but found them to be extremely heavy. There are some nice premium wheels to choose from such as Fikse, and CCW to name two.

my02's?

^hey dan!
i run all the wheels below for different things. the secret is longer studs and a spacer collection as each set is a bit different.... (all are 18" X 10" rear)
the MY02's are my current street wheel and i have to use a 24mm rear spacer as i run 3 degrees camber and it took more spacer than the others to clear the oil line.
fronts are 245/45, rear are 275/35 michelin PS2.
track wheels shown are BBS RE776 ones in the dark are BBS E28 magnesium center.
i do have my cup1's still too...
cheers, haas

Hey Haas, I agree to having longer wheel studs and spacers to better adapt to different wheels sets that one uses. That's a nice aggressive track car you have there as are the alignment settings.

Cup 1's to the purist with a 964 are what fuchs are to the older porsches.

Here's photo's of CCW and Fiske FM5's.
