turn signal & cruise control assembly question
 

Hi,
Well, I managed to break the cruise control stalk off my 90 964c2. I haven't been able to find a working replacement for the signal/CC assembly, but I have managed to find a fair number of 951 (944 turbo) assemblies.

My question: Since the 964 assembly collar is one piece, as is the 951's, would I be able to swap them out with too much work? The 951's plug is a 4 pin connector and the stalks look almost identical to my 964's assembly.

Has anyone done this in the past?

Question 2: My car has an airbag. I've never removed a steering wheel w/ an air bag incorporated into the wheel. Does anyone know the proper steps to take when removing the steering wheel? I'd hate for the air bag to go off in my face :)

I don't know about the 951 replacement. I got a replacement turn signal assembly for my 964 from DC Automotive for a fair price just a year or so ago. With the airbag, here is the procedure:

1. Disconnect the battery and put it far away from the car.
2. Wait. Maybe a day to be extra sure.
3. Take it all apart, put it all back together.
4. Make sure you did not (as I did) miss a connection anywhere.
5. Put the battery back in the car and cross your fingers.

If you mess up, you get a warning light (seat belt and airbag lights together, in my experience). You should not get an explosion no matter how bad of a mistake you make.

I used to have a 944 S2 with a broken CC stalk. I was able to swap just the stalk from another used assembly that has a good stalk. It is really not that hard if you already have the cheap 951 assembly.
If you don't have the 951 stalk yet, then find the correct part.
