Scored hard on some 20w50 VR1 oil at Autozone.

So I went to Autozone yesterday with a buddy of mine to pick up some 20w50 VR1 synthetic oil from Valvoline for his 944. Autozone right now is charging $2 per quart for this oil plus each quart of Valvoline oil is $2 off. So I managed to walk away with 34 quarts of oil from several stores for FREE. Thought I'd share the love.

That was my thinking, guess they did it on a large scale, at least down in Austin. We went to 5 different stores and they were all labeled the same.

Spoke with regional manager at autozone after finding 13 qts of the stuff for $1 each after rebate at one store, it was marked $2 each before the $2 rebate but register would not do it, so I agreed to pay a buck per (still felt kinda like stealing...) so the counter man could ring me out

This was at one store, none of the others had it for less that 4 or 5 bucks after rebate, plenty of straight 60w was available for cheap

Anyhow regional manager says its a "glitch" in their system

Looking for which oil to use on my first 911 oil change and came across this thread.

Anyone else find the above sort of behavior a bit selfish and inconsiderate?

That thread was from more than two years ago, so I'm sure that someone from AutoZone has long since figured out that they had a problem and that situation won't reoccur. As far as the ethics of it, that's up to each individual and the person that they look at in the mirror every morning.

With regard to the proper oil for your 911, much has been written and there are many opinions. You might want to look at the oil section of the LN Engineering website for a good essay on modern oils.

Hardly...The oil was offered for sale on the shelves of a retail store with no apparent limit on purchase quantities. Besides, it looks as if he only purchased 34 quarts, enough for 3 oil changes with a couple of quarts left over for engine consumption.

Me thinks there are those of us way too easily offended these days.

Pretty sure they do a week or two of $2 off. I have stocked up a few times. There a gazillion Autozones (Denver area) so plenty to go around. I think it is a national thing...
