Anyone use z max micro-lubricant?
 
I've heard some good things about this fuel additive. But not anything from the Porsche air cooled crowd. Any thoughts from you experts out there ? Thanks

They have both fuel and oil. I've been told oil additives are a no no. I was wandering about the fuel

No issues. I'm just looking to baby my engine a bit if it'll help preserve internals ?

My understanding is that if you have access to a high quality gasoline that contains appropriate detergents, there's no gain with fuel additives. I use 93 octane Chevron with Techron religiously and have never had a fuel-related problem.

I also vaguely remember that there is some research indicating that if you use Chevron with Techron, you should not use additional fuel additives, including the pour-in Techron, because the additional detergents can promote wear by diluting the oil....I read a statement on the PCA site that Techron can get past piston rings easier than gasoline can and therefore can affect oil chemistry...Many people recommend that if you use a "pour-in" additive, that you time it so that your regular oil change comes soon after the tank of gas containing the additive is used up.

Thanks for info. I've got access to 91 non ethanol octane at best where I live. Never thought about to much of a good thing on additives " washing down the cylinder walls " it makes sense though. Thank you for your input.

Bob Farmer suggested to me to use StarTron Fuel enzyme. It helps combat the enthanol cut in the fuels and raises your mpg a little as well. Many racers use this in formula one and off shore race boats. I have had pretty good luck with it with mpg bumps and it seems to run a little smoother.

The Z max seems over priced. My first job out of school was managing an Advance Auto Parts. We never sold it and the very small amount of customers who used it didn't seem to notice anything. I have heard oil additives are not the best either, unless you want to add Zinc (which is already in Brad Penn and Valvoline racing oils).

Thanks for responding. And yes it does seem overpriced. Local auto parts store has it for $9.00. Right now instead of the usual $20.00 plus price. Which increased my couriosity. It sounds like it's probably not a miracle cure for our aging cars. I will try not to plug up the forum non machanical issues anymore. Thanks again for everyone's input.

I wish there was a miracle cure fluid that we could pour in and solve all our problems. You can give it a try for that price, but I don't think you will get anywhere with it besides your injectors may get cleaned a little.

This topic is about as valid as it gets with regard to a technical forum...Much more so than many threads I've seen posted in the past (Including some I've posted :) )

I put a can of Sea Foam in a full tank once or twice a year.

Thanks guys. I've used sea foam in my diesel and seems to do well with the fuel system. Zmax clams to treat the metal itself. But I guess all these type additives are just giving you (time in a bottle). Slowing a leak for a while or something like that before you actually do a repair. I couldn't resist the $9 deal though. So " clean injectors " here I come ! Also Thanks for validation TMc. And yes the electrical tape over the brake wear light DID keep me sane on trip to Branson :)
