Newbie Here....
I just found this board and if I didn't have to work tomorrow, I'd be reading everything posted....but being I'm seeing double already, I thought I would throw a question out to the regulars. I just kind of inherited a 71 911T targa, socal car that needs a bit of tlc....I say a bit right now but that may grow, we'll see.
Anyway, was planning on doing the work myself but lost the garage space I was planning on using and now it's sitting covered with a tarp and car cover. What I'm looking for is a dependable shop in my area for some mechanical (suspension, to start) work, drives like a tank and also a good body/paint shop. The car came with quite a few new and used parts that were not installed by previous owner, i.e. Konis, larger torsion bars to name a couple. Any thoughts from locals would be helpful. I'm up in North Bergen Cty, NJ. Thanks

Hi there kirk,
Welcome to 911 ownership. You came to the right site for info, parts, personal advice from the BBS, and great people. Its more like a family than a mailing list.. You'll also want to join the Porsche Club of America "www.pca.com". Lots of info, plus a monthly region news letter and a monthly glossy magazine that is worth the $35.00 dollar membership alone. Since you want to do some of the work yourself. Checkout this link to the 911 technical section http://www.pelicanparts.com/911/911tech_articles.htm, or this link to all of the rest of the 911 info http://www.pelicanparts.com/911/911world.htm . This link will get you to the 1965-73 911 parts section ... http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/shopcart/911E_catalog.htm These links with get you to the Porsche book and document section, Http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/shopcart/book_catalog.htm , http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/shopcart/911E/por_911E_documt_main.htm with several books you might find interesting. Although its not specific to your year, I would get Wayne's "101 Projects for your 911". Its based on the 911SC 1978-83, but will provide plenty of useful info. It explains what's entailed for the repair, the skill level needed, tools needed, parts and cost the of the parts. the 101 book doesn't pertain to my 1991 Carrera 2 either, but still very helpful and use it often. This link will get you to the Porsche tool section... http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/shopcart/ptoo/por_ptoo_miscel_main.htm If all else fails and you can not find the info and no one can help. You can email Bob@pelicanparts.com for tech advice. Hope all this help, good luck, and happy motoring, Don
