964 steering rack rebuild
Hi,
I need to get my 964 late model steering rack rebuilt. I live in the northeast. Can someone recommend where I can get it done. The prices I see out there are very expensive, around 1400-1600 and I am hoping to get it done cheaper. Please let me know. Thanks |

I read a number of online reviews and found a number of people that were happy with 993 rack rebuilds done by Phoenix Rack & Axle.
Some were saying if you take your rack to any Carquest in the country, Carquest sends it to PR&A for the rebuild. So I took my 993 rack over to PR&A and it was done the next day for less than $200. They had the seals already on the shelf. Works great, no leaks a year later. Only thing I didn't like was they painted it. You can request no paint. Using Pentosin CHF11s fluid now.

I did mine myself and it worked out perfectly. I suspect any good mechanic could order a kit from KLA Industries.net and do it themselves. BTW, my 964 had a 993 rack in it. The 993 rack bolts up and is more affordable than the more rare 964 rack.
