Key fob issue 996
I just purchased a used 99 996. Two key fobs with new batteries. Both light up.
I tried the reset and resync processes. The keys ARE communicating with the car, the red light inside on the dash goes off when I press the buttons, but does not remotely unlock doors. Knowing that the remote is communicating with the car- what is my next step? |
I have a similar problem with my spare key, won't unlock from the fob.
|
Open up the remotes and make sure the communication " pill " is installed . The pill basically looks like a grain of rice . If no pill there is no communication .
|
Where do you get the “pills”? Is that something you have to go to the dealership for and pay thru the nose?
|
the "pill" is a rfid device that communicates through the ignition switch to tell the car "I belong, it is ok to start.'
The pill has nothing to do with remote lock/unlock. That is up to the circuit board in the key fob. It sounds like your car and fobs have lost contact with each other. That means DEMON DEALER $$ for new keys. If you are lucky a prior owner might have written one of your fob numbers in the manual or better yet stuck the barcode there. No barcode - no program = new transmitter. Don't buy a key head without a barcode. |
