930 vs 996tt owner input required
 

Own a 1986 930 which am considering selling and replacing with a 2002 996 tt.Am inviting input from anyone who owns or has owned a 996tt to offer any thoughts on their car.I am 55 years of age and put about 2000 miles a year on sunny days on the toys.This will not be a daily driver nor is the 930.

Can't even compare the two. The creature comforts are fantastic in the new model. May want to try Rennlist.com for more info...but be sure to come back here and post.

If comparing an '86 turbo to a 996 TT is anythiing like comparing my '87 non-turbo to the 996 non-turbo then the only advice I would give is to keep the '86 when you get the new car if at all possible. If you sell it you'll only end up wanting another one in six months.
Don't get me wrong, the new car will NOT disappoint but the old car is so different and the feeling of driving it just doesn't compare to anything else.

I have a mod'ed '79 930 and a stock 2001 996TT (I just got last week). What I can tell you is that the 996TT drives like a Honda until you hit the gas and takes off like a bat out of hell. I trust the 996TT to be a daily driver car, where as the 930 is not even in the ballpark for that. However, the 930 is like driving a car, you feel every bump, every burp of the engine and I can spin the tires into third gear at 90mph. They are different cars, but to me the creature comforts of the 996TT make it the winner.

interesting post, I was in the same boat, after two good friends just sold their 996TT's as they weren't raw enough, this swayed my decision, one went back to a 930 and the other (poor him) got a GT2. . .

Would like to thank those of you who took the time to share your knowledge and comments on this.After doing some directed reading,have decided to keep the car for a few more years.Being a 1986 and black,the original paint is showing its age.Have arranged to have it painted by a local who is known for his talents in specialty automotive restoration and artistry with a paint gun.

930 vs 996TT
 

I have both an 87 930 factory slant cabriolet and an 02 996TT X50; and they're two different breeds. As previously stated, one is raw and lets you feel every flaw in the road....the other is like driving a Lexus...but has slam-back power through most of the gears from onset of boost till redline.

It's really difficult to say which I like better, because each has its own distinctive personaliity. I drive the TT as a DD, and the 930 for weekend fun. Because I'm an older guy and my clutch knee is giving me trouble, it's easier to drive a car with hydraulic assist than one with a mechancial clutch. Because of that, I find I lean more towards the TT....but a younger guy would probably like the raw power.
