Military PCS - Government contract storage?
I have a Seabee bud with an '01 cab that is moving to Korea for a 3 year tour. He doesn't want to sell the car, so is thinking of doing the gov storage deal, since it'll be paid for as part of his PCS.
Word is they start the cars monthly and maybe even move them around a bit. Anyone done this or heard of any experiences? Thanks.

Never heard of it, but if the price is right, and the car is insured, why not?

I did the military thing for a long time, and never heard of a storage deal. My instinct would be to not trust it. The movers hired by the military were the lowest bidders approved for the work (e.g. no felony-level complaints to the BBB). Why would the storage company be any better?
So if he takes advantage of that deal, I'd seek to mitigate the risk: mark the mileage before and after. Get them to sign a statement agreeing to the "before" number -- not so they know what it is so much as so they know that HE knows what it is. To be really certain, also get a mechanic to go over the car before to detail any issues -- and make them sign that, too. Then, tell USAA (I assume he's insured with USAA) what the status is, what he's done, etc., and figure out the right insurance package. (shrug) That's just what I'd do. Good luck to him, and thank him for his service. Dan
