New 996 manual from Bentley Publishers

Hello there! I'm the sales & marketing manager for Bentley Publishers. We're just a couple of days out from the release date for our brand new 996 repair manual. Pelican Parts will be stocking this soon but I figured I'd jump on here and let folks know it's on its way.

As you can see, I've got my advance copy here at my desk. If anyone has any questions about the book, definitely feel free to post them here!

The picture looks like a hardcover - will it be? Or will it be soft bound?

Glad this coming out (for my future 996 purchase)!

Maurice, hope that we will not have to wait that long for the 997.1 manual.

Mine is coming!

I ordered the Bentley Manual and I was informed I should receive it this week. I'll let you know when I get it. I pre-ordered it and got a $20 rebate.

Yes, this is a hardcover manual. A decent sized one too, the whole thing weighs about eight pounds!

Honestly, it might be a while before we get to the 997. Once the dust settles on this project, we'll be meeting to decide what the next Porsche manual will be...

FirstPorsche, where did you order yours & get the $20 discount (this may be where I saw it's regular price may have been $139 & with $20 rebate is was $119 or am I dreaming this) how much did you pay for it? Thanks!

Thanks bornrich (after seeing your avatar I forgot what I was looking for, really disappointed you didn't have a garage to go with it, Lol). I seen it on Amazon but I thought I saw where somebody on here had bought it for $119. If nothing turns up by tomorrow I'll probably go ahead & just get it on Amazon. I'm on the prime shipping but I don't really understand about the book (its listed as prime shipping for 2-3 days but hell it's apparently not ready for 2-3 weeks, what's up with that)!

Angry

I bought mine from Bentley where it is listed for $219.00. I pre-ordered it which gave me a $20 discount ($199.00). The ISBN #978-0-8376-1710-7. And, as bornrich, quoted, Amazon has it for $138.

Now I'm pissed that I pre-ordered it since I didn't really need it right away. I thought I was getting a good deal but I think I bent over and took it from behind . . . Thanks Bentley!! It is a nice hardcover but if I could have saved another $60 I would have waited. I guess next time I'll just wait and not fall for the marketing BS!

Uh, anyone out there want to buy one? Never used, still in the cellophane and only $189 a $30 discount as compared to Bentley!! LOL

Yeah, I can imagine how you feel! But, it could have been alot worst, you could have paid around 40k for a 996 about 5-6 years ago & NOW, its worth about 25k (& hell that's not on trade-in, its worst than that, low 20's)! Lol! That's why I'll probably end of just keeping it! jmo

Well, my story . . . bought an '02 C4S with a KNOWN blow engine (IMS), went to the wrong shop (shop name rhymes with "Otor Eister") and got F'ed but stopped the work before it was too far along, then took engine to someone else who is very reputable. He took my engine (which is in a million pieces) and has had it for months. I'm sure he didn't want to deal with someone else's mess so he procrastinated. So I bought a used engine, which he has too! It's been 3 months and it supposed to be ready (IMS replaced, new RMS, leak down, waterpump). This week I will be getting the "carcass" towed to the shop for the engine install. I just hope its not another 3 months!

Financially, I paid $10K for the car, $3000 for the crap work (pulled out old engine and tore it apart), $8K for the used engine, and I'm guessing about $6500 for the work on the "new" used engine, new clutch and install. I will try to sell my old engine that is in pieces - part it out or have it rebuilt then sell. Not sure yet.

I've had a Porsche since last Mar and I have never driven it since I bought it!

WOW! OK then I'll just Shut Up! FirstPorsche, that is some kind of story. I would have probably already just thrown the towel in & got something else. BUT, can you imagine HOW GOOD its gonna feel when you do get it back, you'll probably be ready to take a good ole' Long ROAD TRIP! Lol!

FirstPorsche, as a matter of fact if you want to take a Looooong road trip cruise on down here to La. & I'll take you Gator Hunting! Back to the book, do you think its worth the $139.
I need something to help me trace down these CEL's, fast blinking turn signals, bulbs, etc... cause it's NEVER as easy as just changing out a bulb or fuse, NEVER that simple! jmo

For what it's worth, the manual has 36 pages of DTC tables in the back, always helpful for diagnosing those CELs/MILs. Some might say that's worth the price of admission right there...

Thanks Maurice, I went ahead & ordered it yesterday! I saw where a few people over on rennlist were having to wait a couple of weeks or longer to get theirs in but I checked a lil' earlier today & it confirmed my delivery for Oct. 17th! I am on Prime Shipping (2-day free shipping) so that might have had something to do with it. I guess though even with my prime membership it looks like mine will still take a week! As a matter of fact Maurice (DTC tables & help in diagnosing those CELs/MILs is the MAIN REASON I bought it! They are NEVER just as simple as changing out a bulb or fuse (at least Mine Never are) This is one thing I Hate about these cars, cause just one lil' blinker or bulb could be 10 different things that it might be causing it!Lol!

No, for us to cover the Twin Turbo properly, we'd likely want to do it as a stand-alone manual.
