Replacement hood strut issues...
Morning!
So, this is certainly not a knock on Pelican Parts, as they have been great during this process. I just want to see if anyone else has had any issues with these parts. Ordered 2 new hood struts (996-511-551-01-M624) and one for the deck lid a few weeks ago. Installed all the parts in just a few minutes. After the first day, one of the hood struts was broken (the socket part was simply snapped in two). The very next day, the other one broke. I emailed Pelican, and they said they would send me out 2 more. I asked if this was a known issue (supplier?), and she said they would look into it. I've had the new replacement struts on my car for a bit over a week now. And yesterday, one of them broke again! Same exact issue, with the socket part breaking... ![]() It seems like these struts are just too strong (they really do have the hood jump open, and it takes a bit of extra muscle to close it), and they are breaking at their weakest point... I also see they list these as "New Feature"... so maybe they are unaware there is an issue? Anyway, I am already emailing Pelican customer service this morning to either get a refund, or a replacement from a different supplier. Thanks for any tips or advice you may have heard about. Best, Bill ![]() ![]()

Well, that would certainly explain some of it. I happened to have the old struts, and just put one of the old "socket" ends on the one that broke. Its MUCH thicker, so the money savings was in the cheap plastic. Or maybe "pop off" is the "new feature"??

p.s. I know that the "New Feature" is that you can write a review, so please understand I am kidding...! Thanks for the feedback though!
