996 remote key unit
 

Hi I am not usually asking questions on the 996 form as I own an SC. I have a friend who does have a 996 and his remote does not work. I search for a new one on the Pelican parts list and can only find the Carrera GT upgrade is this the only option ? Also are there any headlight upgrades avaialble to get better illumination
the lenscovers are kind of hazy.

keys are most likely a dealer item as they have to be programmed. Expect to pay lots. They are about $250 bucks in the USA and there is an extra fee to program (I think). As far as lights go, they are easy to swap, the whole unit unplugs when you release the tab inside the trunk. He'll need to research that and where it is located.

With the proliferation of plastic lenses on all cars there has been a parallel growth of plastic polishing kits. He can polish the lenses back to new looking.

Remote Key heads are ~$130 from Sunset Porsche 800-346-0182
He will have to get it programmed at the dealer. The blade gets transferred to the new head, easy DIY.
He can also find them on EBay often for 1/2 that $$. If he does EBay the code MUST be with the head, if not it's just decoration.

Thanks for all that info much appreciated the key head is much more expensive down here so getting it from the US will be a big big saving:)

Be aware that European cars use a different frequency than US.
Aussie cars might be different frequency also.
