fuel pump help

i have a 1999 996. stopped at gas station to fill up, (low fuel light was on) left car running, got back into car not running, would not start. had it towed. mechanic started car ran 5 minuets them stopped, would not restart. no codes being shown. he thinks it my the fuel pump, but wants to do some more testing.
any suggestions?

Have him run the fuel pressure and delivery rate test to confirm if it is the fuel pump, as it may not be.
