I have almost fixed my 996 top, but I am still having difficulties calibrating.

Using the Durametric tool, it would calibrate fully and appear to work, but it would log a potentiometer fail. Then the top would work intermittently but stall occasionally and require a short wait or a slight push.

I removed the potentiometer on the motor and the inner plastic gear fell apart in my hands. the black one that goes on the square shaft and has outer teeth, not the orange one that is part of the pot.

I did my best to glue the whole mess together and assembled it. I set the pot to 6.2K as prescribed, but I am not sure if I had the clamshell and top in the correct position for this setting. The top was slightly open but the clamshell was fully DOWN as I couldn't raise it with the bolt loose.

It worked again, and calibrated again, but still shows pot failure.

Questions:

- Where should the clamshell and the top be when the pot is set to 6.2K? Did I mess that up?
- Is the inner gear available? Or is it included with the pot and it is available? Are any parts available other than purchasing a whole new assembly with motor?
- Any advice?

I started a new post because I realize I had multiple issues

I am sorry but I do not understand the 6.2K, where did you get that spec?? Is that in an effort to avoid calibration?

It does appear that the potentiometer is available separately. OEM-99661331302
