Radio quits, then comes back on

Hi All,
I've posted this question to the Boxster forum and figured since the early 996's are similar to 986's I'd see if anyone here has had a similar problem.

This has happened several times while my wife was driving her '99 Boxster (80k miles) home from work. It has the original CDR-220 radio installed. After a few miles, the radio goes quiet and dark, then comes back to life within a few seconds. The second time it happened, the screens above the radio went dim. The subsequent time the screens went dark. So far this has happened about 4 or 5 times. As before everything returns to normal within seconds. I'm suspecting a failing ground, but I'm not sure. I have no idea where to look either. This has only occurs during the afternoon drive home, not in the morning when the car is cold. Other than this, the car runs great.

I've searched for this issue here and on other forums and don't see the same problem discussed. I have a Durametric cable but I don't think this is the type of issue that would trigger a code. Does anyone have a clue about the cause?
