Need Mechanic in the DC area for IMS replacement
Hello Everyone,
I recently purchased a low mileage 2002 996. Having read some of the information about the IMS issues with these cars I am thinking about having it replaced. Can anyone recommend a mechanic in the DC area that has experience with this issue? Thanks so much...

There is a great independent that is relatively close to you (RPM Racing in Lorton):
Home Really wonderful folks! I even have them buy and mount my tires for my Cayenne. They get them cheaper than I can...and you don't have to worry about some clown messing up your wheels or undercarriage.

Sloan at SSI Auto up near Baltimore is very experienced with the 986/996 cars and their particular needs.

I've always found this site here as helpful when looking for some shops. Repair Shops Specializing in Porsche | PCarShops.com and then you can Google search reviews or post them here for people to let you know their thoughts. Also, can read up on more info about the IMS here: Porsche 911 Carrera IMS Bearing Replacement - Pelican Parts Technical Article. Gives you an idea of some good products to use as a replacement as well. Good luck!
