Hi guys!
Just wondering if you've heard of a repair diaphragm part for 996/986 AOS. There's a guy on eBay selling a diaphragm replacement for a 986 AOS for $14.60. The item number is 381944508835 and can be found here. I asked the seller if he had a write-up or know where to find one. I've searched in various Porsche forums and have not found any yet, many of pictures of the AOS internals but no write-up. I know the part is fairly inexpensive and the diaphragm cover is plastic-welded so, please spare me the lecture! (just kidding of course)I believe the diaphragm cover could be removed successfully and then epoxied or JB-weld back together with the new part installed. I also think the AOS are very similar between 986 and 996 and that they probably use the same/similar diaphragm and just vary on the orientation so, is this doable? Has anyone attempted it? Thanks beforehand for your comments. [

If there was ever a "the view isn't worth the climb" project, this is it. The 986 and 996 AOS's are different (the 996 has water circulating through it), and as you would have to remove the AOS to replace the diaphragm, it would be vastly easier and quicker to just put a new one in and be done with it.

$14 part + $10 in epoxy vs $120+ part might be worth the try. The motor is out anyways to replace the hoses as well so, I'm going to buy an AOS and then practice with the old one and probably do a write-up. I guess I'm not climbing the hill for the view.

On the 996, the cheapest part of pulling out the AOS is the parts, the labor cost is always what kills the owners. As for doing it DIY, your time has got to be worth something, and doing it twice simply is ridiculous.
