Steering locked after disassembling - 997 TT MY2007
 

Hi!
I just finished the assembling of a 997 Turbo MY2007.
It was a color change and the car was fully disassembled.
Now that the car is finished, I try to start it but when I insert the key, it recognizes (it says “key 2”), and after a couple of second a red sign shows, saying “steering locked”.

Does anyone has passed through this? Is there any solution?
I wonder if there is any special procedure to assemble the steering column...

I have been searching the web and most of the posts only cover earlier models like 996 and Boxsters.

Is the steering wheel actually locked? Or the message is false? If the wheel is actually locked, you just need to grab the steering wheel and yank it in the direction to unlock it and then start the car with the key.

Thanks for your answer... but does that procedure apply to 2007 997? I have read somewhere that it only applies to the 996/Boxter up to 2004... (???)
Yes, the steering is locked.
The car doesn’t fire.
Only some lights are on and the electric seats are working...
Wheels are straight... How do I know wich way to yank?

I had the same issue on the 2007 911 Turbo I was working with. The steering wheel just happened to be cranked to one side against the lock. I just pull it hard to one direction and turned the key.

I am curious, did you remove the steering wheel at all during the service? Did someone disconnect something under the dash?

Yes, in fact the hole car was completely disassembled due to old bad repairs and a color change.
I will try that on the car, otherwise, I will disassemble the steering column to check if the locking electronic module is disconnected.

Do you have a good code reader? Like Durametric or the Porsche reader? What codes does it show? I’m pretty sure that you have a different problem then steering wheel stuck from friction on the lock.

FPB111, the problem is, because the steering is still unlocked, any reader could not be connected to the car... I have tried that with a Porsche reader...
