Yesterday's Auto X
Good times yesterday. I get a lot of people wanting to ride in my car on track days so I decided to start recording the riders and their reactions.
Meet my friend Richard, he just had a birthday and I asked him if he wanted a ride for his birthday Meet Lauren, she was my paired student for today's autox. Personally, this was an interesting challenge for me because I have never taught someone who just received their driver's license two weeks prior of the event but she didn't miss a beat. Open minded, responsive and fearless. In the beginning she started around the upper 57 and by EOD we got her down to 47.77!!!! I am super stoked for her!! Meet Lee, I believe this was his 2nd Autox with his late 70's 911, so he has been bitten by the autox bug Last edited by pemz0r; 03-21-2022 at 06:40 PM.. |

Bummed I missed this one but will be out in April with my new rims and tires... PS love how your license plate is horizontal when your car isn't, must be more used to that position LOL

Never seen a 911 lift a *rear* wheel before.
Are you running without a front sway bar?

LOVE THIS!!!! This is the first time that I have seen an AutoX with multiple old Pcars!!! I ran AutoX for YEARS in New Orleans and I was the only old 911 around!
Looks like a blast!!! |

Looks like a great time!
Was this a PCA event? I've been running SCCA at Lake Elsinore and have been the only air cooled 911. What class were you running? And id love to hear about your setup/tires. Matt |

@Tyson - if you look closely you can see the front is lifting too..
@cajun - it's an awesome event and there's a handful of us that run aircooled p cars @solamar - this is with the PCA of Los Angeles, check out motorsport register and find an event and come lay some rubber down! I am in CC03, suspension is a stock setup except I am running larger torrison bars for SWB 22F 26R, and some sticky tires Hankook z214. Last edited by pemz0r; 04-04-2022 at 05:49 PM.. |

@pemz0r Thanks for sharing! I was on the opposite end of the US (Metro PCA on Long Island, New York) driving AutoX on Sunday. Not overly happy with my times ... new car, new tires, so clearly its the driver (aka me) who needs the improvements!
Really great to see your videos and pics - as it shows how aggressively your are driving! Helps a relative newbie like me..... A couple of questions: 1) I noticed that you are shifting where a lot of people say don't shift after you get into 2nd. Is this just due to your comfort with AutoX and so something you feel helps and that you can handle? I have a 996 C4S - and so torque is available at about 2500, but I do feel like I need some oomph when the speeds get low. 2) Where / how / what type of camera are you using for your videos? I have been using my phone, but want to get something that I can mount to see my hands and out the windshield. Thanks!

@jcsjcs Awesome! Seat time, some good instruction and you will improve
![]() This was my first car, and I have had it for 23 years, so it's like a second appendage. I have no problem shifting in any situation. But... the gear ratios in an early car are really low, so some courses I can be in third, and even faster tracks I can even be in fourth. Your 996 should be able to stay in 2nd with majority of autox courses, maybe that's why people are telling you not to shift into 3rd... just depends on the course. I currently use a Gopro 9 Black. There are a lot of accessories on the market for gopros. I use a suction cup mount that I attached to the passenger rear side window. |

Looks like fun. In CC03 you were probably classed with David W. I have shared the track with him for many years.
Protip: Check your passengers helmet strap to make sure it is secure
