Please Check My Planned Harness Set-Up
I'm about to place an order for some G-Force harnesses and Brey-Krause mounting hardware. I would appreciate it you guys could look over my list and tell me if I'm ordering the wrong part.
This is for a 89 3.2 Carrera, street / AX / later DE. I am keeping the OEM belts and want to be able to easily clip and unclip the harnesses. I will be using a harness bar guide (until I get a rollbar) but anchoring the shoulder belts at the rear seat lap belts. Using racing seats. Planned order: - Harness: G-Force 5-point pull-down camlock with H-shoulder strap (GF-C5030). Is there any disadvantage to the H-shoulder? - Belt end: G-Force snap hook belt ends (GF-107). I was going to use this part on all five belt ends (shoulder, lap, crotch). - Mounting hardware: - lap belt inner mounts: Brey-Krause tunnel side belt mount (R-9002) - lap belt outer mounts: Brey-Krause outside belt mount (R-9003) - shoulder belt mounts: G-Force 1/2" eyebolt (GF-109) is this the right thread for the existing rear seat lap belt mounting points? - crotch belt mount: G-Force 1/2" eyebolt (GF-109) with large backing plate (GF-100), bolted through the floor. Is the floor material thin enough for a 1/2" bolt?

John, I have the G-Force 6 pt harness set. I bought the 6 pt because the front strap bolts to the seat front. That eliminates welding a plate on the floor, for the single front strap. The H sholder strap is a matter of choice. I prefer the 2 single sholder straps. If you use eye bolts to mount the 2 lap belts, your seat might not have enough clearance to slide the seat back. hope this helps, Craig

Thanks, Craig. What is the negative of the H shoulder strap? I guess I could get individual straps, since I'll have a seat with strap guides plus a harness bar.

John, I just prefer the single belt setup if you are running the sholder belts through the holes on the back of the seats, single shoulder harness allows for whatever distance that is needed between the 2 straps. with the 2 straps attached the space is fixed. Craig

I see. G-Force tell me that the H strap is adjustable for width and for position on the shoulder strap. Hmm - we'll see. Thanks for answering.

I thought H-straps were required for use w/ stock seats, so you don't get chicken-winged. If you have race seats w/ pass thru holes you can use single straps. BTW...if you haven't ordered the inside tunnel mounts, I've got a pair to sell.

I figured some days I might get lazy and go to an AX without bothering to remove the stock seats / install the race seats, so it would be good to have the H shoulders, even though they aren't necessary for the race seat days.
Unfortunately I already ordered the BK mounts. Thanks.

John,
I used the 1/2" eye bolts GF-109 and the GF-100 mounting plates and everything worked great, plenty of thread. I shot a bit of undercoating around just for peace of mind. I am not sure if the eye bolts are the same thread as the seat belt mounting bolt. I didn't think that was what they were intended for, maybe I'm wrong, sorry but I'm not taking mine out to check!

Just received my harness bar and harnesses. Seem like pretty sturdy stuff.
Turns out the G-Force eyebolts thread into the stock points for the rear seat belts. That was a nice surprise. However, I'll eventually have someone cut me some anchor plates (one hole for the seatbelt bolt, one hole for the harness clip end, sandwich the plate between the stock belt and the car body) since the eyebolts make the rear seat unusable by my kids and I don't want to be installing and removing the eyebolts all the time. Question: here is a pic of the floor under my seat (pass side). Forward is toward the top of the pic. Where should I drill for the sub belt mount? I thought of drilling in the shallow "channel" that is forward of the amplifier, since it might be a bit stronger than the flat part of the floorpan. I'd bend the backing plates to fit the channel. Anything wrong with that idea? Any hidden stuff in that channel?

If you crawl under your car I bet you will see that that is just an indentation in the pan. I guess it makes it stronger if you put some channels in it. I don't have any of that stuff under the seat of my '76 so it's hard to get oriented but I think you will find that if you drill there and put a plate on the underside you will be fine. Get the anchor for the sub belt as close to the hole in the seat as possible and it should be no problem
PS thanks it's nice to know that the eye bolts fit in there nicely I think I will change my setup a bit
