American LeMans
I've watched each race this season, but noticed durring the second race that the Panoz LMP cars are missing this year. Anybody know why? They are running their GT entry, but not the big dogs (sounds like thunder, goes like lightening).
I haven't heard any of the commentators mention why. Not on CBS, NBC or Speed. Just curios.

Last year, these cars were run by a privateer JML. The last year for factory Panoz entries was two years ago. Basically, Big Don wanted to focus his efforts on the series and not providing some of the field. The cars were at the end of their development, and there wasn't going to be a whole lot more speed found in them and Panoz wasn't going to develop a (another! -- LMP07) follow-on car.

That's too bad. Even though they were never really competitive with the Audi's, they were fun to watch. I figured that was the answer, but I never heard anything about it. I guess they always try to put a positive spin on things. In this case instead of discussing departing teams/manufacturers, they like to talk about who's coming aboard. Now I hear Mazda's interested. This after Lambo's entry.
But, I will miss the Panoz LMP cars as I do the BMW M3's.

I miss the unique approach of the Panoz cars also. The good news is that several of them are being actively campaigned in vintage events, including Wayne Jackson's '99 LMP that I came across last month:
