Some great new video from Bruce Canepa at Monterey in 2010.

What kind of lap times did the 917 do?

The braking distances look to be 3-4 times as long as for the F-1 cars (there are a couple of videos of them, somewhere.) Still very impressive for a old crock.

I watched them both on Youtube through the second link. I forgot to say how awesome they were because I was emailing them to my Dad.

The sounds are awsome. Wish they would drive them a little harder though, they come off the gas so early and lift for turn 1.

I can say with sincerity that the 2009 Historics were one of the high-points of my life so far -- certainly from a Porsche/motorsports perspective!

917 at Laguna Historics

The motor revs quicker than I expected, the suspension seems stiff but stable.
Are these 917 Turbo charged or not ? cause aren't some N.A.
They are very COOL old race cars.
I clocked a clean lap at 1:31 FAST!

These were 917K. Naturally Aspirated. Only a few of the 917s were turbocharged- the 917.10 and 917.30 CanAm cars used from 1972 to 1974. The heyday was 1973, IIRC. The 917.30 blitzed everyone, then they decided to change the rules so Porsche wouldn't win everything. Then all the fans lost interest. Way more 917s were naturally aspirated than were turbocharged.
