In car video question

This video system records directly to a compact flash card.

http://www.racerpartswholesale.com/speedprod20.htm

Does anyone have any idea who makes the recorder? I already have the bullet cam, Id like to do away with having to have my camcorder in the car at all.

Tim,
I have found when directly recording to a flash card that fast moving things become very choppy. I'd record directly to the Mini DV. I have that lipstick camera, but have never been able to get it to work at all. It has a BNC fitting and I need to convert to a 3.5mm to fit my camera.

I still love my RaceCam setup. It has features that make it nearly unbeatable except for the price, but I guess you get what you pay for. It uses digital tapes and video is very clear, it has a sun shade feature so you can darken the windshield area and see the dash and your hands/feet, it has a wide angle lense, the wired remote is nice so you can start the tape when you roll out of the pits and the screen on the recorder lets you look at the video immediately after racing if you want!

I know how to capture some pretty nice video

Im looking to eliminate the camcorder. I dont know how but I imagine you could use an Ipod to record the video, heck you cou place it in another radio box..

The recorder in the Racerparts pic looks like it has a built in LCD screen

Wonder who make it?

I haven't seen that setup before. That box inside the box,
though, looks a lot like the old Mustek personal video
system things that only recorded at low res. But if they
are using 1Gb for 1hour, this box is probably recording at
hi-res so it must be something newer. Good chance it can
be found by itself somewhere by luck and google

I'm still using D8 camcorder for recording; the issue with
going to flash cards is that the compression is happening
on the fly (MPEG2 or 4) and the encoder has to be good.
I haven't seen any of the hi-res flash recorders yet but
hoping they are good and reliable and inexpensive.

I'm using this DVR to record in car video in combination with this microphone and this camera.

I'm really pleased with the quality of the video. I've two things left to do on this system. One is to add a neutral density filter to knock the brightness down from the windshield outside view and the second is to put a wind guard on the microphone.

Regards,
Kevin

I just recently got into in car vids. I just slap my DVD recorder to the front roll hoop & have at it. I past the software bug a boos, editing, etc....it really comes out quite nice...but my main problem is a host to post the stuff on the net. This site is limited to an unknown number of downloads or 7 days
This is my first attempt:

Oops, it's toast, sorry

Here's another. A buddy did it. It works but is slow.

Wow, I get lucky once in a while. I had to dig a bit, but
that is recording at 320x240. Not great, but useful for
some apps.

I have no experience with either of these, but check out
the hi-res one you could get:
Samsung SCX105L
