915 Racing Clutch

I have a 3.8RSR engine with a 915 gearbox. Funny enough the gearbox is holding up fine.

The clutch is the problem.

I had a modified alu press plate that worked well for a while. Now its toast.

The 4-button spring center clutch is looking fine and so is the flywheel.

Please tell me what setup to use - and YES, I have searched!

Who sells a clutch KIT that can handle some 350bhp for the 915?

Regards, Tom

It may be overkill, but have you looked into:

Yirkjh%$nkmsdfgv£.

$3000+ WITHOUT the Tilton clutch (and I actually only need a clutch/pressureplate).

My flywheel is already fancy.

Who sells a good pressureplate (Centerforce?) that will simply bolt onto my 'standard' 915 flywheel?

BTW: I do use the WEVO gearshift / coupler and they are super products.

Tom

Hmm, sounds like overkill of the "thermonuclear warhead" level.

Umm, maybe Kennedy? They've been known to supply a dizzying variety of clutch parts for various applications.

Oh--and when you're talking to your clutch parts supplier, you might want to specify the (rough) level of torque your engine is making, not the HP. I believe that it is torque that spins the clutch disk loose from the pressure plate, not HP.

Dave, thanks so far. Very silent in here!

You're right about the torque v bhp - nobody cares about bhp these days...

Engine makes +/- 400nm (some 295 ft-lbs me thinks) @ 5200rpm.

Clutch experts - WAKE UP.

I have a CenterForce clutch from Patrick racing in AZ.
350hp/915 combo.
Next time I think I will have Jae at Mirage International in San Diego respring my Sachs racing preasure plate and run a puck disc with it.
Contact for Mirage is 1 858 581 1101.
Tell him you saw it on Pelican.
BTW Jae's track car is a 400hp 3.8 with a 915 too.

I have a 3.8 car here in NorCal. A bunch of us run big HP through 915s... The cat's pajamas are the old Sachs rsr parts. No one seems to have them any more. I am told that is the only thing that always works for big bhp besides Hayden's Tilton set-up.

If you contact parts at Sporthaus in Reno, Duck Fuson may know of a newer solution.

Good luck.

I'm running my 915 behind a 350ci SBC in my 914.
It had the sachs alloy PP and a puck disc in it which where toast, though they did hold up for a good bit of abuse.
I'm hoping the comments on the rsr part are correct. I just snapped up an alloy rsr pp to be resprung and a kevlar disc to go with it. I'll let you know how it fares.
Oh, and I'm at about 365 lb torque.

I have just ordered the Kennedy Stage 2 Alu Pressure Plate.

Does anyone have any knowledge about this item?

Tom
