Race video from Willow Springs (June 25th) up.

It was HOT!!!! I posted it up on google. Despite the heat I managed to get the fastest lap of 1:35.2 . I was a second faster in the cooler morning. I ended up finishing first. It was very fun.....but HOT. :) enjoy.

Sweet video!! Congrats on your 1st place victory!! that was a great race :)

jester911 06-28-2006 04:51 PM

Nice job Chad.
It looks like the tires were getting kinda greasy towards the end. Is that what caused the 914 to lose it towards the end?

Or was it just the constant pressure of you on his a$$:D

Jerry that would be HER ass :)
Edie is a great driver, I wish I had her talent.

Toothzilla 06-29-2006 12:11 AM

DAMN, congrats to both Chad and Kev, you guys at kicking some major ass out there.

jester911 06-29-2006 03:26 AM

After watching the video I see her talents. There is something daunting about being in front with someone constantly on your tail.

That 2.5 sounds strong Chad. Looks like a ton of fun.

jluetjen 06-29-2006 05:03 AM

Great driving Chad! She seemed to have a pretty strong motor at the end of the straight, but your car seemed to handle better going up the hill -- which is kind of opposite of what I would have expected.

jester911 06-29-2006 06:35 AM

Yeah John I thought the same thing. I also thought she didn't drive as clean a line through the turns as Chad but figured she could get away with it being in a 914.

ErVikingo 06-29-2006 07:41 AM

Awesome, thanks........

jluetjen 06-29-2006 07:42 AM

I agree Jester911. She seemed pretty casual about her apexes compared to Chad. That may be a function of her making her car wide, but the net result is it looked like she was slowing both cars down. Never the less, it looked like mid-way through turn-two, and under braking for the left prior to the uphill (turn-three or turn-four?) were two places where she was leaving the door open as a result of being wide.

BTW, the last time I commented on the driving in a video, it turned out to be our own Mark Scott doing the driving. ( Ulp! http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/blush.gif -- but he was very gracious).

I'm still puzzling over why she spun where she did -- it just seemed like a strange place to lose the rear end. I wonder if she messed up the downshift and unsettled the rear end?

jester911 06-29-2006 07:51 AM

Yeah John I really think the tires got greasy on her and caused her to loose the back end. Maybe Chad will chime in and give us some incite.

Plavan 06-29-2006 09:20 AM

Yes, Edie is a great driver and a good sport. I just think that our tires were getting way too hot. Once I got by her I slowed down big time to cool everything off.
It was one of my favorite races to date. She did close the door on me when I had a run on her down the straight.... but that is racing :)
It is alot easier to "catch" a 911 when you start to spin than a 914. Think of it this way, it is harder to initiate spinning a spoon (911) than it is to spin a knife (914) on a table :)

Regardless, we all had a blast in 107 degree weather :)

Our next race is at California Speedway in a few weeks. She usally beats me there (I run out of gear, X 5th gear). I'll make sure I put up a fight though.

The video from that race will have all the RPM, speed, G's etc from my new data logger. Should be fun.

Vintage911Racer 06-29-2006 10:16 AM

TO bad I left Sunday Morning. I just let you slide into my 2nd place starting spot... without even a fight. It would have been fun. The 3 of us dicing it out. Great race Chad. You might have finally gotten the Willow Monkey off your back. I would give you a little advice about turn 9 but I will let you figure that one out on your own. You are getting to fast as it is. My little 2.0L needs all the advantages it can get.. So I am not offering any more tips now.. LOL...

Great job..

When I unloaded my car after I drove home, My left front Brake caliper had leaked all the fluid out. Not sure why..So good thing I did not drive Sunday Afternoon.

See you in Fontana... Maybe...

Plavan 06-29-2006 10:30 AM

Thanks "Mr. Too Hot I'm going home" :). I was pissed you left :)
Those tires I ran on Sat were heatcycled to death. Once I put the new rubber on Sunday I was 2-3 seconds faster.
I need to quit "coasting" so much in 9. I think that will help me drop another .5 or so.
Brake fluid leak.... You would not of noticed because you never brake :)
Can't wait for Cal Speedway. I love that track.

Vintage911Racer 06-29-2006 10:49 AM

Actually Chad, I went home becuase I was going to the Erotica Convention with my girly at the Convention Center. So of course that is more important then racing in 107 degree heat.

The track temp was to hot to get any really good times. a 1:34 was my best on Saturday morning then a 1:35 in the Saturday Race.

In turn 9... try staying out later.. you are turning in to soon. That is why you almost spun it on the first lap. I saw you drop that left rear wheel.

Netspeed 06-29-2006 06:28 PM

Mark,

Did you ever get the recording of your car I sent you synched up to your video? I'm just curious to see how it turned out.

Fantastic video, I'm drooling all the way from New Mexico. It had the look of an interesting end and you didn't disappoint.
To appreciate, I need a heater fan blowing in my face.
Something about the 914 just in front, closing the door at one and your renewed pressure.
How fast through turn nine?
What kind of speed at the end of the straight?
Great video. I just can't say enough.
Thanks for sharing.

Plavan 06-30-2006 11:54 AM

Glad you guys like it.

Front straight speed is 7100 RPM in 5th "X" gear = 130-132 mph
Turn 8 is at 6500 RPM in 5th "X" gear= 120 MPH
Turn 9 is 6500 RPM in 4th "S" gear= 99.5 MPH

I will have my new Traqmate GPS Data logger in for the next race for real time speed at Cal Speedway. I can't wait.

Jack Olsen 06-30-2006 02:33 PM

Great video. Your speeds are on par with mine:

Turn 1: Drop down to 85 mph
Turn 2: Drop down to 90 mph
Turn 3: Drop down to 65 mph
Turn 4: Drop down to 63 mph
Turn 5: Drop down to 65 mph
Turn 8: Top speed of 128 mph
Turn 9: Drop down to 95 mph
Front Straight: Top speed of 132 mph

Plavan 06-30-2006 02:36 PM

Thanks Jack.
Those are just ballpark by looking at the video and the rpms, then cross referencing the gear/rpm/tire size.
I can't wait to get the data logger up and running.
