996 for SCCA T2

I am thinking about seting up a 911 996 3.6L as a track day car and also for occasional SCCA T2 racing. I don't care about winning. I also would consider Boxter S and BMW M3 for T2 or Honda S2000 for T3 (which is very competitive in that class). I just like the 911 too much. Any concerns or advise? Thanks

Concerns..yeah, that you don't care about winning. You may not now, but once you get into it, it's just natural to want to run up front. Get the car that gives the best chance in whatever group.

Actually checking on the local results for SCCA I believe the 996 would be competitive.

Been there did that. Any advice on the 996? Did anyone built a 996 track car?

I think a better statement would be: Get the car that gives the best "and cheapest" chance....

I don't think I can ever race anything but a Porsche. But I get so aggravated on how much racing parts cost for Porsche as opposed to other makes like Mazdas. Maybe its just me but it always seems the odds are always stacked against Porsche owners. If I were to do everything from scratch and knowing what I know now, I would strongly look at building a Mazda.
