WTT: My 1986 coupe for your targa

This is more of a feeler than anything, but I'm happy to talk to anyone serious. I only have 2 requirements, that it be rust free and that it not need paint. If it's a project or a roller, as long as it's a solid chassis I will consider it with enough $$$ thrown my way. Obviously a running driving car without major needs it preferred. Year doesn't matter to me.

My car is a special order Limonengelb 1986 Carrera coupe with around 113k mi on it. My dad was going to buy it, but decided after 5 years as his daily driver he's ready to stop driving a sportscar. So I'm going to sell it. Since I don't have a nice targa (the one in my sig is a rusty turd) I figured why not go looking for a trade before I throw it on BaT.

Please email me at gtgears@yahoo.com if you have an interest. We can talk finer details and trade pictures, etc if you're serious about it. Expect me to fly in and inspect your car in person. I would invite you to do the same. Thanks for your time.

A couple additions based on responses. I don't like aubergine or most of the browns. And no black. I would do white or guard red only if its a running driving car. And no 76-77, we are held to CA emissions which means they want thermal reactors. That's part of why i sold my 912e.

Also I would consider a 914 or 914-6 conversion. But no project 914s. I already own one.

I keep getting "will you sell it?" messages. The car is not for sale at this time. If you don't have a targa to offer please don't reply. If i don't trade it I will sell it on BaT and you can all bid on it.

Bump. Gave the car to my guy on Friday to go through it. He gave it back Saturday because he found a couple minor oil leaks we didn't have the seals to fix (cam boxes) so I'm going to order up the other parts and take it back in two weeks. I will probably take it to Boulder Cars-n-Coffee Mar 3 before dropping it off at the shop if a local wants to see it.

Still looking for that $25-30K targa with $15-10K cash thrown in. Or a $20k 914 with $20k cash. Show me what you got.

There's been some delays getting the car to my mechanic so I've just been driving it. About once a week I get an email asking me if I would sell it. Here's my stock answer:

I would sell but I'm not negotiable. My price is $40k. I have zero interest in marketing and selling this car in anything but a single effort. I have $2500 worth of service parts sitting in the trunk waiting for my mechanic to find the time to do an engine out service for me. After that it will be professionally detailed and photographed for auction on BaT. If someone showed up today with $40k I would stop that process and sell it on the spot.

A couple pictures I snapped less than an hour ago. I continue to drive the car.

Bump. If I can skip installing the parts, but include them in the sale, I would do $37,500.

I've got a local buyer coming to look at it so I washed it and took a some fresh pictures. I'm still interested in a targa. There's got to be someone who has dragged out an SC driver that's not being driven and scored it for $15 or $20k but you really want a coupe? Put in not that much more, and you've got one and a bunch of value added on your flip. Win-win.

Car is scheduled with Simple in a couple weeks. Chris could PPI it while it's there if you want. But once he does the work on it it is a $40k car. Told the other guy here in CO he can have it for $36k today. I do have an uploaded album for someone who is serious.

Been a long time coming, but I pick the car up from it’s engine out service today. Last chance to work a trade deal before I send it to auction. LMK.

Mancave will be here to pick up the car for detail and ceramic coat in about an hour. All told I've spent $10,000 reconditioning the car. Someone is going to be very happy with what they get.

The car is sold pending payment. Thanks Pelican. You made this pretty painless.
