Plastic sucks!

So I am in the process of fixing a few issues on my 2008 cayenne V6 with 155,000 miles on the clock.

Issues are a P12A2 code and coolant leak.

I did my research and figured the P12A2 code is fuel overpressure caused by a vacuum leak. Most likely the PCV valve, so I will be replacing the valve cover. I had the the part for a long time, never the incentive to do the job because car runs fine. But now with also coolant leak I had to bite the bullet and remove the intake manifold to access the valve cover.

Let me tell you, that job is a PITA due to small clearances and plastic parts that disintegrate. Namely, the vacuum brake booster line has to be removed and will break in that process, no way around that. There is a very well written article on Renntech that describes the whole process of intake removal if anyone is interested. I also found the origin of the coolant leak, which is another well documented plastic part failure.

So, I am in the middle of this job, waiting to receive the plastic parts that I have to replace...will update on the progress.

The bright side of this is, since my Cayenne is out of commission, the 911sc gets some daily exercise getting me to and from work .

When I say plastic sucks, I really mean it. I had that coolant leak on my engine, and when I pulled out the flange that was leaking, the plastic inside was totally disintegrated. No wonder why it was leaking!
By the way, that design is so stupid, almost meant to create a leak, with the little notch in the seal groove. What is the purpose of that? Make cars last only 10 years I guess!
