CarPlay?

I have a 2014 Cayenne Diesel and I have seen that there are a few after market kits that allow you to remove the Satellite Radio board and replace it with an Apple CarPlay board (I've seen versions that you need to plug your iPhone in and versions that support wired and wireless CarPlay). The Porsche sales person indicated that these after market solutions of adding CarPlay seem to work well but if you ever need Porsche to work on the radio, you need to remove the modified part.

There are several companies that seem to offer this (all Chinese). Has anyone done this and can provide feedback as to how well it works?

This is interesting. . .

I remember for Gen I and II of the Cayenne there was the option to remove the CD player and replace with an aftermarket satellite receiver. This combination would not affect the radio use.

I would like to see what options there are out there.

If you do a Google Search for PCM3.1 CarPlay, companies such as Joyeauto and Unichip show up. These companies have install videos on YouTube too. I believe, but not 100% sure, that you put the radio in Satellite radio mode and you enter the CarPlay mode (so all other original functions should still be available). I have seen at least one review that suggests these "retrofits" can't access the Porsche mic and so you need to add a secondary mic for at least communicating with Siri (and perhaps CarPlay initiated calls?). There doesn't seem to be a lot of people on this forum but I believe the PCM3.1 head unit was used across a lot of Porsches, so I might do a broader search across this forum. If I find any relevant threads, I'll add them here...
