Hood release cable problem

Hi,
I have a 2004 Cayenne Turbo, and my hood release broke and I couldn't open the hood..
It required a skilled mechanic to get to the latch by removing the radiator grille. He inserted a socket wrench with a tiny serrated screwdriver and somehow prised the latch open.
It was a really troublesome problem which wasn't helped by the Porsche service manual that refers to the hood as a "lid' and has reference to an emergency release cable that is somewhere INSIDE the engine compartment.
The problem was a plastic housing for the two-part cable link that had broken loose.
The housing had been previously secured with a single plastic cable tie that had become brittle and had snapped
So someone had that problem with my car before!
Perhaps it would be a good idea to have the emergency hood (lid) release cable somewhere where you can access it a bit more easily..
Or was I missing something?
